Abu Dhabi, UAE – March 19, 2025 - The United Arab Emirates (UAE), represented by the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), participated in the inaugural G20 Research and Innovation Task Force meeting in Bloemfontein, South Africa, on February 24 and 25, 2025. The discussions focused on open innovation, biodiversity for sustainable development, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in science, technology, and innovation.

ATRC reaffirmed the UAE's support for global cooperation and open innovation as essential drivers in tackling pressing global challenges, including climate change, food security, and economic sustainability.
Emphasizing the UAE’s dedication to biodiversity protection and sustainability, ATRC underscored its alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the nation’s long-term vision. The Council expressed its support for expanding cooperation with regional and sub-regional centers under the Convention on Biological Diversity, which will play a crucial role in enhancing training, data collection, and global biodiversity conservation efforts.

Additionally, ATRC stressed the importance of fostering diversity and inclusion within innovation ecosystems, advocating for a data-driven, structural approach to embedding these values.
The UAE welcomed the proposal to establish a G20-UNESCO platform, recognizing its potential to transform global science, technology, and innovation policies through robust data-driven insights and precise analysis.
